Blackpool’s backup goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi has spoken of his goodwill to fellow goalkeeper Mark Howard who suffered a ruptured Achilles injury. Mark Howard had suffered the injury in Blackpool’s defeat at Burton Albion last month and has undergone successful surgery.

Mafoumbi knowns the pains of suffering from a long-term injury having suffered a similar injury some few seasons ago. The Congolese international has since taken the stead at the club and has been in good form. With Howard out until next season,Mafoumbi would be expected to man the sticks until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old had an impressive outing in the last game at Valley Parade against Bradford City as Blackpool made a huge stride into the playoffs with a 4-1 victory. He had earlier made a penalty save to deny Bradford a break into the game at 2-0 up.

Speaking after the game Mafoumbi revealed that he was close to travelling for international duty when he heard the news of Howard injury. Sensing an opportunity to hold the number one spot the 26-year-old decided to return to help the team.

“ He revealed that he believes that Howard can recover fully from the injury despite the long rehabilitation process involved“.Blackpoolarecurrently 8th in the league with seven games in the league as “ they look to sneak“ into the play-off places.

Seating four points off the final playoff spot held by Doncaster it looks like a tough ask for the club with a few games left.

The club is also waiting anxiously for the EFL verdict over their ownership situation which could cost the side a 12 point deduction. Blackpool would look to continue their winning ways as they face Plymouth Argyle in the league on Saturday.
