The Romanian winger Ciprian Marcia has said that Victor Piturca, the manager of his national side, has had the backing of the fans.

Piturca is in his third stint as Romania boss and he has not made the team do anything extraordinary so far. The Tricolorii couldn’t even qualify for the 2014 World Cup. They were impressive in patches, but, the end result was that they missed out on qualification.

Piturca’s earlier stints in charge of Romania were a bit more successful than his current one as he had guided the team to the Euro Championships in 2000 and 2008. It’s possible that he might take them to Europe again in 2016, but, it’s going to be tough.

However, according to Marcia, the Romanian public has got a lot of belief in Piturca because of his earlier successes.
Talking to the reporters yesterday at the launch of the Daily Soccer Match Lists, Marcia said, “The fans have always backed Victor and they continue to do so. They believe that he’s the best man to oversee the team’s campaign for Europe and rightly so. He has seen all this before and thus, knows what needs to be done for being successful at the top level.”

However, Marcia did admit that Romania doesn’t quite have the same quality in the squad as they had a few years back.
In the words of the Konyaspor player, “We had special talents like Chivu and Mutu in the past and the whole side used to revolve around them. We don’t have them anymore. So, you can say that we are a bit short on quality. But, you just need to stick together and make full use of whatever you have got.”

The Tricolorii will play their first Euro Championships qualifying match in September. That will be against Greece.
