Manager of League One outfit Barnsley, Lee Johnson has claimed that he is extremely happy to have returned to pre-season after a spell of holidays.

A number of fitness checks have completed for the players and they have been taking part in full training since Wednesday. Barnsley and Lee Johnson are thought to have taken a short break from focusing on the new season and player recruitment for the summer transfer window. Now, these works are expected to renew in full swing. After a mid table finish last season, Johnson has his work cut out in order to make Barnsley as promotion hopefuls.

Since the profile of the squad is still very young and inexperienced, it is thought that the manager wants to bring a few signings in order to complete the squad before the start of the new season. The work has begun extremely quickly since there are only a few weeks left before the start. Barnsley have already been part of a few friendly matches in the pre-season. They still have only games against the likes of Huddersfield Town remaining in the rest of the pre-season. There are suggestions that younger players may be sent out on loan for experience.

“The lads have come back and been great.I’ve personally really enjoyed being back on the grass. Some of the young players have gone away in the summer and worked on a few of their deficiencies and they’ve come back and improved. That as a coach gives you a buzz. It’s all positive and we’ve got to make sure that we get it right and hit the ground running, but so far, so good. It’s pre-season so you see how everyone comes back. The lads have all come back fit and there’s no rush for any of that,” said Johnson.
